It has been 24 hours and I am STILL on cloud nine!! Last night, I went to Ann Arbor, a city about 50 miles away, to watch Carbon Leaf perform. Mum and Kade went with me, and I had a BLAST!!!! *happy sigh* I would love to do THAT a few times a year!! Oh my word! It was so cool!!

Before I get into the review and set list and such, I am going to post some of my favorite pics.

This is Carter. He plays both acoustic and electric guitar and mandolin. {he may also play a few others, but I cant think of them right now}

I too got to take a pic with Carter!!!

Barry Privet, was also kind enough to stand for pics with us. All of them seem like such nice guys. After the show, they were all milling about the fans to take pics and talk and sign stuff.

Barry signed my new hat for me. {as did Carter} WOW do I look bad standing next to the likes of Barry Privet!! lol! The thing I think is funny……Barry has this same look in every pic I have ever seen of him next to a fan!

Barry came over to the side that we were on to tell everyone that the sound was much better IN FRONT of the speakers. Yeah…..I am sure that is true….however, the only spots that were open were RIGHT in front of the big speakers…..and that means two things. 1. Cant hear for the rest of your life since your eardrums have been blown out. 2. Cant see a blessed thing! No thanks! The side was just fine…..this was the conclusion is seems everyone to whom he was talking, came to.

Chris could not come with, so I called her during the playing of Life Less Ordinary. After I held the phone up a bit, Kade took it, and then Mum talked to her.

During times when there is no singing to be done, Barry sits off to the back on the drum stage. This way, it is the others you are paying attention to, and the great talent they all have. I think it also gives him a chance to rest a bit. Barry is not one to stay still on a stage.

I think that Barry is laughin at the little kids that were dancing in the street…..however, it would not surprise me, if he was laughing at the two strange redheads off to the side of the stage. Kade and I were having so much fun, and it was not like we were the only ones singing along and yelling and screaming. I do think, though, that we were the only ones doing the gypsy yodle that we learned at the Ren Fest!!!

It has been said by other fans, that it is possible to know what song is being sung, just by the acting that Barry {a hopful actor who has been an extra or had a small role in a few films} does during the songs. While I do not remember what song this is in, to me it looks like he is saying “What!?!” Yet, I know there is no song in which that is said……so I am thinking it was Torn to Tattered.

I got right close up to the stage to take some pics from beside Scot the drummer and behind Carter and Barry {pictured}

I put the flash on for this one, and I think it came out with a cool look! This was near the end of the show.

Carbon Leaf’s Monitor Guy, Chris Buford, often posts on the CL message board. This is him, kindly waving to say hi to everyone from that board!

We got there a tad late, since the show was suppse to start at 7:45 and we were still walking to the intersection at that time. Thankfully, though, the show was also running a bit late and did not start until 8, a few minutes after we found a spot in which to stand. The guys could be seen standing behind the little platform that had been set in the middle of the road, to serve as a stage. Two guys from the hosting radio station came up on stage to thank the fans for coming, and welcome Carbon Leaf onto the stage. They were met with alot of noise, as everyone began to clap, scream, yell, hoot’n'holler, and jump. They played One Prarie Outpost to start off, which was quickly followed by What About Everything. In great surprise to me, next they played Torn To Tattered and then Paloma. I have not really ever been a huge fan of Paloma, but after hearing it live, it is joining the ranks of ‘special’ CL songs!! Life Less Ordinary was played next, I believe……I am not really sure because I forgot to bring paper with me to write all this down. Instead, after about five or six songs, I began to call our other cell and leave voicemail messages with what songs had been played. Because I was on the phone with Chris at the time of LLO, I did not call it in, and so I am kinda takin a guess at its place on the set. As if I was not already in a mood to cry, they played Changless!!! I listened to this song many many times on the bus to Iowa last year, and it is one of those songs that always brings that memory back. Who would have thought, that at my very first concert, I would get to hear The Boxer!!! YAY! This was followed by Grey Sky Eyes {*tear*} and Raise The Roof. I could have fallen over when they played Bron Y Aur Stomp next. I did not know they still played this song, and it is such a fun song!!! My hands went numb from the clapping…..and even today they were rather red and blue! They thanked the crowd, and left the stage. The crowd continued to go wild, and the guy came back on for an Encore. Screams for Mari Mac could be heard all ’round. Barry told the crowd that they would play what they wanted….and we would all like it. Another fan in the group called something out, to which Barry replied “Dude….you’re drunk, go home!” Let Your Troubles Roll By was played as thier first Encore….much to my glee! This had been one of the songs I had listed to my sis as one I would LOVE for them to play. I think it was during this song, that Scott would get up while the others were quiet, and play one note on the triangle. It was hilarous!! He played it about three times, when Barry then motioned for him to go around in a circle the next time, and so Scott stood up once again and played the triangle, only this time, he hit it in a circular pattern. What made it so cute, was that he almost looked proud of himself! Like he was playing a big joke on everyone! Before going into the second encore song, Barry introduced the other guys in the band once again, and Terry introduced Barry. {Heh, as if nearly everyong in that crowd didnt already KNOW thier names and place they called home!! heh} Always ones to please thier fans, Mari Mac rang out as the last song played for the night. If the street had not been loud enough before, there was no denying that a fun party was taking place at this time. There was dancing in the street, and echos gallor of “MY MOTHERS MAKING ME MARRY MARI MAC”
Once again thanking the crowd, the guys all left the stage and took different places around the merch booth to meet and greet the fans. {Oh. I forgot. Both Jordan and Carter had solo’s after songs in which thier instruments played a huge part. For his solo, Jordan played an amazing rendishon of “Ode To Joy”. Sad to say I really dont know what Carter played, but it was cool whatever it was!! heee. There was also another time, when Barry sat down and let the guys Jam for a bit. If I am not mistaken, they were playing “Placing Microphones” but I could be wrong. I know I recognized the song though.}
The sky was growing dark, as the three of us made our way over to the merch booth, where I was able to get the attention of one of the ladies I knew from the CL message board. I waved and let her know who I was, and she later came by and asked if I had a nice time. Now…..why she would have to ask, I dont know! But it was nice of her to do so anyway. Terry and Jordan were standing next to the line talking to a few of the fans, as we stood in line trying to decide what the best purchase would be. I decided on a cool “trucker” hat. It is the tan baseball cap you see in the pics up there. We first met up with Barry who was very kind, and posed for pics with both me and Kade…and signed my cap. Everything that I had THOUGHT would be a good thing to say at a moment like that, FLEW out of my mind. All I was left with was to tell him that I listened to one of thier CD’s everyday on the way to PT, a year ago. He said “Oh……Well….Dont get sick of us!” I did manage to also remember to tell him that this was my first concert, and that I had a blast. His reply was something to the affect of “we are your first concert? Oh well cool!” When I asked him to sign my hat, he pointed out that I was ‘all decked out’ in Carbon Leaf gear. He also noted that the necklace I had chosen to wear, was also with the whole theme, it being a Celtic type pewter setting with a blue gem.
Next, we went over to meet Carter. He was busy talking with two other fans, so we stopped to wait our turn. When he had finished, he stepped closer to talk to us, saying “Are you here to see me?” I asked “Is it that obvious?” He then said, “Well no….I thought you were over here waiting to sell me drugs.” I then fained shock and exclaimed that I no longer liked Carbon Leaf…….and that it was a shame I had already put so much money into my CL wardrobe. Carter said “Yeah…you are all decked out in Carbon Leaf stuff arent you. No no, Im sorry…..I know you are not here to sell drugs…..wanna take a picture?” After Kade snapped the pic of me with him, he asked if we thought that one looked ok, and so I showed him the display on the camera. “This is the nice thing about digital cameras, cause we get to see if we need to take it over again now.” We decieded that the pic looked ok {though I said I really thought I looked horid in it. He made some comment about him FEELING horrid, and then he thought it looked fine.} and we moved onto the pics with Kade. The first looked whited out, so he said he was fine with taking another. He took a look at it and said “Very good. My producer would be pleased.” To which I replied “Good. Cause you know these are goin on the internet.” *grin* “No no no no no.” He said. “What do you mean, no no no no???” “I dont like pictures of me on the web.” And something about not likeing how he looked in them or something. I told him not to go to his message board, cause then he would see LOTS of them. “I try not to go there, actually. I am afraid I would see that they all call me poopyhead.” ROFL!! He also signed my cap…..both he and Barry had to do so while the hat was still on my head,since I knew that if I took it off….my hair was going to fall. heh.
With that, we headed home. Or, in my case…..floated home. Mum said I did not touch the ground all night!
It was a GREAT night that I would not trade!! I pray that someday soon, I may be able to repeat it!
YAY!
Thanks Mum for coming!
Thanks Dad SOO very much, for letting me go! AND for staying home with the kids.
Thank you Carbon Leaf for a WONDERFUL first concert! YOU ROCK!!!
